Women of Ciudad Juarez,
The Canadian Association of Sexual Assault Centres are writing to express our concern about the serialmurders of women in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.
We are horrified to hear that since 1990 nearly 300 women have been raped and killed in the Mexican boarder city of Ciudad Juarez. It is outrageous to learn that there is no official investigation from the Mexican authorities so far.
We express our solidarity with the women’s groups in Mexico, particularly the women fighting to stop the violence being done to their sisters. We also support the Maquila worker’s demands for better working conditions, better salaries and safety conditions. All of these things will improve women’s standard of living and improve their safety from violent harassment, attacks and murder.
We urge the government authorities to seriously address and investigate the murders and stop this violence against the women of Ciudad Juarez.
In solidarity,
Rosa Arteaga
