Announcement: CASAC reports to the Senate on Bill C-46, An Act to amend the Criminal Code on the production of records in sexual offence proceedings

October 26th, 2011

Lee Lakeman appears on behalf of the Canadian Association of Sexual Assault Centres to the Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs to examine the impact of Bill C-46, An Act to amend the Criminal Code on the production of records in sexual offence proceedings. Seen by many women’s groups and feminist organizations as a step forward for women using the criminal justice system, Bill C-46 was passed as law in 1997 and was designed to restrict access to a woman’s medical, counselling, therapeutic, and other personal records in sexual offence prosecutions.
