A New Initiative: Canadian Association of Sexual Assault Centres Convention 2005
Members of the Canadian Association of Sexual Assault Centers will conduct our 2005 pan-Canadian meeting in Vancouver April 25, 26, and 27. As usual we will renew our alliance with each other and develop our frontline analysis policies and joint plans of action. We expect to discuss those issues arising from the CASAC LINKS research and the report of the last five years work as recorded in Canada’s Promises to Keep: The Charter and Violence Against Women . Among those issues are: the criminal justice responses to the
victimization of women including restorative justice initiatives, the criminalization of women, the medicalization of violence against women, the impoverishment that isolates women and makes them prey to violence and the impoverishment of women as a result of violence, the globalization processes that push women into prostitution and undermine women’s organizing against violence. Of course, our meetings will celebrate feminist assistance, autonomous organizing structures and practices from crisis lines and transition houses to coalitions.
